This guide covers the new wave of climbing to sweep through the Lakes area in the last few years. Prompted by the scarcity of lines on the mountain crags, much development has occured on the limestone of the south Lakes, in the slate quarries, and on the sandstone of St Bees Head.

Just over half the routes in this guide are bolt protected, and many of the new tactics used by climbers these days such as top roping prior to leading, pre-placing runners, and red-pointing have been taken into account in writing the guide.
