Options:
The Scarpa Manta has for many years set the standard for 4 season walking boots. As new and improved materials and construction methods have become available, these have been incorporated in the design so that the Manta has evolved into this current best ever version.

It still uses the tried and tested, M4 tech sole, pro-flex midsole and RS/RSD lasting This gives an upper which provides great support for the ankle and lower leg and the degree of stiffness to the sole for superb support, but with the flexibility needed for long walk-ins. The upper, has been re-designed with the ergonomic 360 degree ankle flex from the Mountaineering line, coming into play.

This section of the boot is manufactured from Lorica for exceptional durability in the flex zone.

These features give the boot fantastic flexibility at the ankle, allowing dexterity and comfort.

The extra height and comfort of the Manta, move the performance up slightly, making it ideally suited to the “ aspirant winter climber”. Still B2 rated the boot performs well on snow gullies up to grade 3 level.
  • Upper: 3mm reversed Crosta leather with Lorica Flex Zone
  • Midsole: Proflex
  • Sole: Scarpa/Vibram M4-tech
  • Weight: 1904gm (size 42)

The Scarpa Manta is suitable for use with crampons for walking, summer alpinism and Scottish winter climbing up to grade 2/3. We recommend the Grivel G10 or G12 crampon with either the New-Classic or New-Matic bindings.

To keep your Scarpa Manta boots waterproof and in good condition, we recommend the regular use of Nikwax Aqueous proofing.

  'NEW ANKLE SYSTEM IS GREAT.'
Strengths: Very Comfy, the flex-ankle system is superb and offers superb support (despite what I was expecting). Still a relatively straightforward boot. Great winter boot.
Weaknesses: The lace-locking system is good for keeping laces tied, but also very good at ripping through laces. I've already gone through one pair after no-more than 10 days of usage. Scarpa should address this or provide better laces for an RRP of £165. A tad-heavy at the end of a long day (especially after kicking steps with crampons), but that is to be expected from such a solid boot. Expensive, but discounts can be found.
Overall: Very good 4-season boot and very satisfied. Haven't done any technical stuff in it yet, but have a friend that has used C3 crampons with no problem whatsoever (should only take C2). The ankle-system is great, just a shame about the laces. Would buy the same again.
