Opinel knives have been around for many years, and they represent great value for money now as they did all those years ago.

Like most well designed products, they are simple, with no frills. The blades are made from high quality carbon steel which can be sharpened to give a keen edge. The handles are made from hard wearing beech, and are fitted with a locking ring to prevent nasty accidents.

  'CHEAP AND CHEERFUL'
Strengths: Great price - mine cost AU$15 which is about GBP6. The blade is easy to keep sharp and it's got a really simple yet strangely nifty locking mechanism to keep it open or closed.
Weaknesses: Blade doesn't appear to be the greatest quality and tarnishes easily.
Overall: More of a day-trip / picnic on the hills type knife than anything more serious but the wooden handle, sharp blade and simple locking collar make it a pleasure to use. Anyway, you can't have too many complaints given the price!
