Traditionally Petzl's most popular headlamp, the Zoom is also the most universal. The weight is perfectly balanced from front to rear and the soft plastic battery case sits comfortably behind the head. The light source is direct-able and the Zoom bezel allows the width of the beam to be adjusted.

Now with a halogen bulb as standard.

The Zoom gives a 100 metre beam.

  'BOMBPROOF'
Strengths: Unrivalled reliability (only 2 moving parts!) no switch; powerful beam with halogen light; spare parts available. relatively cheap second hand
Weaknesses: Cost/ availability of batteries - buy plenty out the hypermarche in France
Overall: Don't bother with a spare battery: take a tikka or zipka instead (its lighter) and use the zoom when you need the extra power.I've had my zoom for 25 years and still in good nick - (it replaced the old E01 non-zoom which is still a good torch also)
