This is a real hill walkers boot. Assault is made from superb full-grain HydroStop leather and is equally at home on Lakeland summits or the rugged Scottish mountains. It has a single piece leather upper with a well cleated sole and its stiffened midsole makes it suitable for use with walking crampons.

Its ruggedness and durability also makes it an excellent choice for those who take their hill walking seriously, or who work everyday in the outdoors, or for forestry or military use.

  'BOOTS FOR THE TRADITIONALIST'
Strengths: Similar to the last generation of Scarpa SLs but more basic and much cheaper (rrp £100 but can be had for as little as £40). A one-piece leather construction ensures dry comfortable feet and the robust sole unit gives good grip on pretty much any terrain - I've only lost my footing once in these and that was descending wet rock in the dark.
Weaknesses: They need a bit of breaking in, nothing major just a couple of low level walks on easier tracks. Also, although they're a good wide fit they seem to be a little on the short side so if you're planning on using these as winter boots with thick socks you may need to go up a size (or have them stretched).
Overall: Should be called Contour Classic because that's what they are: good old fashioned leather boots with stiff aggressive soles and no 'breathable' linings or other rubbish. The more you wear them the better they get.
